Let me start by saying that pulled rabbit is absolutely amazing and will change your life. I’ve cooked several pork butts and have made tons of delicious pulled pork over the years, but pulled rabbit is a different animal.
The first time I fixed it, I used a domestic rabbit from my local butcher and it was very good. The second time I made pulled rabbit, I used a wild rabbit and cooked it in the crock pot. The taste was unbelievable and I’m now torn between fried rabbit and pulled rabbit in the slow cooker.
I even got bold and smoked the rabbit low and slow for two hours before finishing in the crock pot and made pulled rabbit sliders. They were so good!!
Ingredients:
1 rabbit – cut up (fryer or wild)
1 medium yellow onion sliced
1 bottle favorite barbecue sauce (KC Masterpiece)
1/2 cup water
favorite bbq rub
Directions:
1. Season the rabbit with the bbq rub and put the pieces in the crock pot. Pour water in slow cooker
2. Put the onion slices on top of the rabbit
3. Pour the bbq sauce over the rabbit and onions
4. Cook the rabbit until tender. Time will be dependent on the size of your rabbit. 2 hours is a good start
You can also make pulled rabbit in the oven. Just put everything in a baking pan, cover and cook for 1 hour on 375. This is a really great recipe for those of you who raise rabbits or hunt them. Pulled rabbit can be cooked ahead of time and frozen.
